Fry Club Colts U13 (1) v Hanham U13 (0)

October 16, 2005

The weather was gloriously sunny and hazy, for this game against Hanham. Fry’s started with confidence following their last five wins in a row. Myles Jefferies got the first chance after 4 minutes when he came forward for a corner and headed just wide of the left post.

Skinner and Thomas were working well in midfield winning the ball and making some good passing moves.

It took just 9 minutes to see Fry’s take the lead when Dan Buley latched on to a through ball to slot it past the diving Hanham keeper into the bottom left corner of the net.

Fry’s defence have been playing well over the start of the season and today was no exception. There were some excellent challenges from Dan Stone and Tom Sheehan, and good linking play between Danny Curtis and Jack Baber (in goal) with the ball being laid back and cleared up field with the strong boot of Jack.

There were numerous attempts on goal from Tom Hooper, Harry Pople with the best coming from Justin Skinner, who saw his in-swinging corner shave the top of the Hanham goal.

The second half started with Dan Buley nearly getting his second, but saw his effort go just wide after he connected with a delightful cross put into the box by Ryan Ellett.

Hanham won a foul quite a way outside of the Fry’s area, and the resulting free kick thumped against the cross bar with the Fry’s keeper left motionless in goal. Credit goes to Hanham as they continued to battle with some determined play which was keeping them in the game. Fry’s should have sealed the game with the amount of chances they were getting but could just not find that finishing touch.

Changes saw Evan Thomas and Lewis Marcham coming on to replace Ryan Davis and Danny Curtis.

Hanham came close again with 10 minutes to go when they hit the post with a screaming cross goal shot.

The next substitution saw John Cotgrieve come on for Ryan Ellettt, to give some fresh legs up front. Fry’s managed to hang on, with the crowd once again nervously chewing their fingernails until the final whistle.

Six wins on the bounce now, and the manager Rob Stone already making enquiries about changing his name to Jose Mourinho !!!
